A Celebration Of International Dadaism

On December, 27th, 2005, Mayor Boog Highberger of Lawrence, Kansas, proclaimed:
“the days of February 4, April 1, March 28, July 15, August 2, August 7, August 16, August 26, September 18, September 22, October 1, October 17, and October 26, 2006 as INTERNATIONAL DADAISM MONTH, and I encourage all citizens.”
In response, Charles Rice Goff III of Taped Rugs Productions organized an International Dada Celebration, which took place on April 1st, 2006. The venue for the event, Lawrence’s South Park Recreation Center, offered a space where the lines between “performers” and “audience” could be easily blurred. The packed house took to the event with a natural exuberance.
Archived here is a video of highlights from the three-hour-long event. Derald Carlson and Marc Epard exquisitely caught the event on camera; Goff edited together the highlights. Fred Sack, John Bowden, and Goff himself contributed to the unique visual and audio in-house environment of the celebration, which are well represented in this presentation.

Introduction
Kevin Butler: Readings of Dadaist poems by Kurt Schwitters and Hugo Ball
Michael Paull: Performances of Eric Satie and original piano compositions
Part 2
Audience: Creation of original Dadaist poems according to the Tristan Tzara method, incorporating cut-and-pasted journalism from the early 20th Century
Audience: Readings from their original Dadaist poems
Part 3
Robert Baker, Barry Barnes, Kevin Butler, C. Goff III:
Simultaneous readings of:
1) Poems by Dadaists: Theo van Doesburg, Richard Huelsenbeck, Adon Lacroix, Pierre Albert Birot
2) “The Hyperbole Of The Crocodile’s Hairdresser & The Walking Stick” by Tristan Tzara
3) Original Dadaist poems created by the readers
4) “Ursonate” by Kurt Schwitters

Performance of "Composition 3," an original work by C. Goff III
Special thanks to Karen Goff for her help in administering the event.
This collection was re-edited in 2015, offering higher quality resolution video and some materials that were not included in the original 2006 release.
